Kendrick Bourne Out for Season with Torn ACL

We have more details on Kendrick Bourne’s injury and it’s not good.

Many feared Bourne suffered a torn PCL when he left Sunday’s game against the Dolphins, but it’s actually much worse. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Bourne will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.

Despite the many woes at the receiver position for the New England Patriots, Bourne was one of the few bright spots, as arguably their No. 1 receiver. He led the team in snaps in their Week 7 victory over the Buffalo Bills. As one of Mac Jones’ most trusted receivers, this is a major loss in what has already been a disappointing season for the Patriots.

Bourne is also in a contract year, looking ahead to a potential lucrative deal after a highly productive season. He will finish the season with 37 catches for 406 yards, with four touchdowns in eight games, including one on Sunday to give the Patriots an early 7-0 lead on the Dolphins.

Heading into 2024, Bourne certainly still has value in Foxboro, particularly if Mac Jones is still behind center. The Patriots likely could re-sign him at a discount in the offseason with the season-ending injury, but you never want to root against a player coming out of a potential career season, particularly after his many ups and downs since coming to New England in 2021. Whether it was the Patriots or another team, Bourne had a decent pay day coming. That may no longer be the case.

Things are looking even worse for the Patriots without their top receiver. While DeMario Douglas is the one bright spot, DeVante Parker has underperformed and could be out multiple weeks with a concussion. Juju Smith-Schuster will get more snaps after falling down the depth chart to Douglas, but he’s been underwhelming. It will present more opportunities, however, for players like Jalen Reagor, Tyquan Thornton (a healthy scratch on Sunday) and Kayshon Boutte to make contributions and see if they have a positive future in New England.
